  • There is a huge potential and a lot of possible applications of GISAS from different fields such as self assembly, magnetism, superconductivity, biology, solid-liquid boundaries and dynamics or surface exitations which have been identified.
  • Past GISAS studies tend to apply "conventional - quasi kinematic" scattering techniques to grazing incidence geometery.
  • Only a few studies take advantaged of Yoneda scattering
  • The opportunity of specially designed samples for channeling waves should be investigated.
  • For depth resolved measurements of two surfaces in contact with each other the resolution function needs to be known extremely well. Tails of the resolution function must be avoided.
  • Information and specification of current instrumentation is not standardized and summarized.
  • There are simulation tools out there such as: Bornagain, FitGISAS, ISGISAXS, PyGISAXS and HIGISAXS. There nonetheless remains a large and pressing need for better theoretical understanding and analysis methods.
  • "Education" beyond the kinematic theory is limited.


The Session identified this as an area appropriate for a new working group with following staged activities:

  1. Round Robin sample (CdSe particles in polymer on CrAu)
  2. Analysis and new opportunities
    1. Analysis - can we go beyond DWBA?
    2. wave amplitude amplification and explore channeling
  3. How to distribute data: Corrected? Transformed? What is Q? Should it be defined in the laboratory frame or the sample frame?
  4. Teaching of dynamical theory
