This Workshop marks the 25th Anniversary of the canSAS network (collective action for nomadic Small Angle Scatterers).
The acronym canSAS stands for ''collective action for nomadic Small Angle Scatterers''. It is a bottom-up effort originally initiated in Grenoble by Ron Ghosh (ILL), Roland May (ILL), Peter Timmins (ILL), Claudio Ferrero (ESRF) and Wim Bras (DUBBLE CRG) in 1998. Ever since it has been an ongoing activity to provide the small-angle scattering user community with shared tools for data reduction and analysis, and disseminating other pertinent information (https://www.cansas.org). Lately the focus has been on data analysis and modelling software, instrument resolution corrections and other issues related to data interpretation.


The meeting will address topics such as artificial intelligence and machine learning in small-angle scattering data analysis and acquisition optimization, experimental aspects including emerging sample environments, small-angle scattering based imaging and issues related to ultra small-angle scattering. There will be a mixture of plenary sessions and breakout groups with extensive discussion and posters.  And the canSAS working groups will report on their activities.
The last formal workshop was held in Freising, Germany in 2019 (https://www.cansas.org/wgwiki/index.php/canSAS-XI). The following meeting planned in Delaware did not take place due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As '''2023 represents the 25th Anniversary of canSAS''' it seemed only fitting that this Workshop should return to its birthplace!
